SMOOTH OUT DOG EARED COPY
If you have existing copy, you may not need to reinvent the wheel. There are two services that will vastly improve the quality of existing text, whether in print or online.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the last line of defence between writing and reader and focuses on superficial rather than structural errors. Your copy may not look like it’s been dramatically altered, but small changes can make a big difference.
Proofreading corrects;
• Spelling mistakes.
• Misuse of language.
• Grammatical errors.
• Mistakes in punctuation.
• Basic layout / formatting issues.
• Problems with syntax (the way words and sentences are arranged.)
My rates for proofreading are lower than for copy editing or copywriting (from scratch) as the process is less time consuming and complex.
Consider proofreading to perfect an already good piece of text.
Copy-editing
Copy-editing is a more involved process that results in more changes to your text.
Copy-editing focusses on;
• Improving clarity of expression.
• Removing inconsistencies in tone of voice and language.
• Ensuring copy achieves maximum impact.
• Ensuring copy directly addresses its target audience.
• Improving readability, injecting personality and eliminating jargon.
• Checking the intended purpose of the copy and whether it achieves this.
On its return, the general quality of your text will have been increased substantially, so you can expect it to achieve measurably better results.
You can be as involved in the editing process as you wish. You may prefer suggestions in note form, for us to work together using tracked changes on a Google document or simply to receive a finished document, all changes made.
Rewriting to create unique content
Sometimes we don’t need to reinvent the wheel. If you have an article, blog post or other piece of copy that’s looking a little tired out, isn’t performing as well as it could or hasn’t been refreshed since the turn of the century, I can rewrite its content to create original material. This is usually a quick and simple process – think of it as a rejuvenating spa treatment that will leave your copy freshly energised and ready for action.
